Happy Dental Health Month! As you may know, February has been designated as the month to raise awareness about our pets? dental care. To do our part Josey Ranch will be offering a 10% discount off of all dentals from now until March 10, 2004.*

What you may not be aware of is that more than 85% of dogs and cats over 4 years old have some form of periodontal disease, a painful inflammatory condition in which bacteria attack the gums, and ligament and bone tissues that surround and support the teeth. Dogs over 8 years of age are at a greater risk for developing periodontal disease. Advanced periodontal disease can lead to lung, heart, kidney and liver infections. Damage from these infections can have lasting effects on the organs and can even shorten the lives of your pets.

Look for these warning signs:

  • Bad Breath ? one of the first signs of dental disease.
  • A yellowish-brown crust of plaque on the teeth near the gum line.
  • Red and swollen gums.
  • Pain or bleeding when your pet eats or when the mouth or gums are touched.
  • Decreased appetite or difficulty eating.
  • Loose or missing teeth.

If your pet has one or more of these symptoms, it might be time to schedule a dental exam. To schedule a dental with Josey Ranch Pet Hospital, please contact us at 972-446-0667, Mon. ? Tues. 7:30am - 6:00pm, Wed. ? Fri. 8:00am ? 6:00 pm and Sat. from 9:00am ? 1:00pm. We look forward to hearing from you!
